How the Cumulative GPA Calculator works

The Cumulative GPA Calculator combines your prior cumulative GPA with new courses, weighted by credits, to project your updated cumulative.

Useful mid-degree — you can see exactly how each new grade moves your overall average, helping you plan which classes to prioritize.

Formula

cumulative = (prior_gpa × prior_credits + Σ(gpa × credits)) / (prior_credits + Σ(credits))

Where

prior_gpa

FAQ

Common questions

Where do I find my current cumulative GPA?
Usually on your unofficial transcript, student portal, or grade summary. Make sure you're pulling the cumulative number, not just the most recent semester's GPA.
How many credits should I include?
All credits you've completed and received a graded result for. Skip in-progress, withdrawn (W), or pass/fail credits unless your school explicitly counts them.
Can I project the next term before grades come in?
Yes — enter the letter grades you expect to earn and the calculator gives you the projected cumulative. Adjust the grades to see best/worst case scenarios.
What if my school uses a non-standard scale?
Click Grade Scale to set custom GPA values per letter — useful for honors weighting, 5.0-scale schools, or any unusual system.
Does this save my cumulative between visits?
No — nothing's saved. The calculator runs entirely in your browser. You'll re-enter your cumulative each time.
