Grade Calculator

Calculate your course grade from assignments — percent, letter, or points.

Quick start

How to use the Grade Calculator

  1. 1

    Add each assignment

Type an assignment name (optional — it's just for your reference) and enter the grade you received.

  2. 2

    Use any grade format

Numbers (92), letters (A-), or a mix of both — the calculator detects what you're entering and adapts. Switch to Point System inside Grade Scale to use raw points instead.

  3. 3

    Set the weight

Enter how much each assignment counts toward your course grade. Weights don't have to add up to 100 — the calculator handles whatever you give it.

  4. 4

    Set a goal (optional)

Want to know what you need on the rest of the term to hit a target? Drop it in Final Grade Goal and the calculator works the math backwards.

How the Grade Calculator works

The Grade Calculator computes a weighted average across every assignment you enter. Each grade is multiplied by its weight, those products are summed, and the total is divided by the sum of the weights.

When you mix letter grades and percentages, each letter converts to the midpoint of its range. In Point System mode it computes total points earned divided by total available.

Formula

grade = Σ(value × weight) / Σ(weight)

Where

value
your grade on each assignment (percent or letter mapped to a percent)
weight
how much that assignment counts toward your course grade
Σ
sum across all assignments you've entered

FAQ

Common questions

Do my weights need to add up to 100?
No. The calculator works with whatever weights you enter — it computes a weighted average based on those numbers. If they don't sum to 100, the Final Grade Goal field uses the remainder as your remaining weight.
Can I mix letter grades and percentages?
Yes. The calculator detects mixed input automatically. Letter grades are converted using the midpoint of their range (e.g. an A- becomes 91% on the default scale), so a mixed-mode result still comes out as a single percentage and letter.
How is the Final Grade Goal calculated?
It uses the gap between your current weighted score and your target, then divides by your remaining weight (100 minus the total weight already entered). If the answer is above 100% the calculator marks it as not achievable.
Can I customize the grading scale?
Yes. Click Grade Scale to edit the letter, the percent range, and the GPA value for each band. Changes update the calculator instantly. There's a Reset button in the modal if you want to go back to the default 4.0 scale.
What's the Point System toggle for?
Some classes grade on raw points (earned out of max) rather than weighted percentages. Flip the toggle inside the Grade Scale modal and the row inputs switch to Points Earned and Max Points — the calculator then does a simple total-earned ÷ total-max calculation.
Why use a grade calculator instead of doing the math yourself?
Faster, fewer mistakes, and the goal feature works the algebra backwards for you. Free, no sign-up, and it runs entirely in your browser so nothing gets sent anywhere.
